Sewer and Septic System FAQ

Is it safe to flush my tampon?
(as seen on a popular tampon manufacturer’s website..)

“It is not safe to flush tampons. While tampons are biodegradable in landfills, they will damage septic systems. Tampons do not break down once they are submerged in water, they are made to do the exact opposite. Tampons will not clog the toilet right away, but repeatedly flushing them will build up in plumbing over time. The proper way to discard a used tampon is to wrap it in toilet paper and discard it in a waste receptacle.”
